Advanced and Deep Tissue Massage Courses

If all goes to plan I hope this Advanced and Deep Tissue Massage Course will be the next massage course I do….

I will do it with Gateway workshops and this is what they have to say about the course…

This course will teach you how to apply Deep Tissue and Advanced Massage Techniques

  • The Deep Muscles of the legs including Hamstrings, Illio-Tibial Band & Quads
  • Muscles of the lower leg such as the Gastrocnemius
  • Muscles of the Back
  • Muscles of the Arms and Shoulders
  • Feet

The course aims to help you develop advanced massage techniques which will enable you to be more confident and specific in your treatments. This gives the potential to expand your client base as you will be able to offer more than just a relaxing massage. You will be able to treat clients with muscular pain and tenderness and lack of flexibility with more confidence.

Outcomes

Participants will have a good understanding of:

  • Adopting correct working posture for deep tissue work and hands free massage techniques
  • Observing client posture
  • How to develop their palpation skills
  • Recognising trigger points and how to apply the correct techniques for treating them
  • Utilizing Neuromuscular Techniques and other advanced massage techniques to treat specific areas
  • How to perform a massage routine incorporating advanced massage techniques.

What conditions is deep tissue massage used for?

  • Chronic pain
  • Limited mobility
  • Recovery from injuries (e.g. whiplash, falls, sports injury)
  • Repetitive strain injury, such as carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Postural problems
  • Osteoarthritis pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Muscle tension or spasm

As Geoff is suffering from spasms in his big toe I think he will be pleased about this :-)

I hope to do this course in August !

Sciatica and Massage

I am almost certain that I have muscular sciatica

“Muscular sciatica is a result of a deep muscle spasm in the buttocks. This impinges the sciatic nerve near the hip, causing pain and weakness. While vertebral sciatica can strike anytime of day, the attacks of muscular sciatica more often occur in the early morning. Sufferers may notice the pain decreasing during the course of the day as a result of routine use of the muscles.

Massage and Sciatica
Muscular sciatica can involve all the musculoskeletal symptoms of the leg. Unlike vertebral sciatica, this type of sciatica may not respond well to chiropractic manipulation, but it responds exceptionally well to the soft tissue approach of massage therapy.

An ideal way to address early symptoms of sciatica is through use of therapeutic massage. Massage therapy helps remove waste materials from muscles. Benefits include “breaking up” muscle spasms and increases the flow of oxygen to the muscles. Massage also lengthens and relaxes muscle groups allowing them to rest. Range of motion and flexibility are restored.

If ignored the dull pain of early morning sciatica can develop into chronic sharp or debilitating pain. Complications include sensitivity or swelling of the buttocks, legs or feet”.

Now I may not be able to massage myself but I do work in the right place to get some great treatment.

and If you suffer with Sciatica you can always contact me for a nice relaxing massage in the comfort of your own home :-)

Back to Business !

My break is over, I have had my fun in the sunny snowy Alps and loved every second that I spent skiing.

Now its back to business and time to start filling my nice moleskin Diary with Massage appointments.

Winter is a great time to enjoy a massage it will  keep the bugs away, making you feel fit and healthy :-)

Massage strengthens the immune system

The lymphatic system is a major factor in your body’s battle to ward off infection and heal injuries. The lymphatic flow is usually very sluggish in most people and especially so in those that have less active life styles.

Massage therapy not only improves the circulation of the blood and its vital nutrients, but also increases the circulation of lymph thus helping your body fight off infection and speeding your recovery from injuries and illness.
Health is our greatest wealth

So treat yourself today…

E-mail me at  massage@sallykelly.com or Ring me on 07843261254 to book that appointment today, you wont regret it !

OR visit me at the Crystal Cave on a Monday or Wednesday

Massage for maths

Massage for maths

Struggling with your maths exams here is another great reason to have a regular massage…….

“So, if you can do all that with a touch, imagine what you could do with a massage!

Well, one study has found that it can boost your maths skills (Field, 1996). Compared with a control group, participants who received massages twice a week for 5 weeks were not only more relaxed but also did better on a maths test. Once again, witness the incredible power of touch.”

A must have treatment..

Lava shell massage is fast becoming the must have treatment!

“The therapist massages your body using heated clam shells, called Lava Shells. The therapist holds the shell in the palm of their hand while using light Swedish massage strokes. It’s primarily a relaxing, soothing massage. If you want deeper work, hot stone is a better choice.”

“The shells have a rubber plug in the bottom. The therapist inserts a packet of minerals and algae into the shell, then adds sea-water and plugs it up again. The chemical interaction between the ingredients creates heat inside the shell that lasts one to two hours.”

Maybe this should be next years course , although I still like the idea of the Thai foot massage
